A Taste of Elegance: Enjoying Tea at the Ritz Carlton in My 60s
Let me just say—there’s something wonderful about sitting down in this elegant setting for afternoon tea in London, especially when you’re in your 60s. You start to appreciate things a little differently at this stage in life. You know how to slow down, notice the little details, and really savor each sip, each bite, and each beautiful moment.
Now, I’ve had all kinds of tea experiences in my day. Sweet tea on a porch swing in North Carolina, herbal blends in far-flung locales during vacations, and even a quick tea bag dunked into hot water while juggling laundry. But Tea at the Ritz Carlton in My 60s? That was something else.
It felt like stepping into another world—one filled with elegance, soft music, and just the right amount of sparkle.
Royal Welcome
We entered the Ritz London, right near Piccadilly, and I could immediately tell we were in for something special. The lobby lounge was filled with plush, carpeted floors, sparkling chandeliers, and staff who greeted us with warm smiles and genuine grace. I honestly felt like royalty—and isn’t that exactly how you’re supposed to feel at the Ritz?
The tea was served in the famous Palm Court, which looks like it belongs in a romantic movie set in the 1920s.
Plush chairs, dainty fine china, soft music playing in the background—it was like time slowed down. And yes, for anyone wondering, it’s totally TikTok and Instagram-worthy. I may not be a social media expert, but even I knew to snap a few photos to capture the moment.
They even had a pianist softly playing in the background, adding the perfect touch of elegance to the atmosphere.

Tea Treasures
Our server, who really knew their tea, came by with the menu—and wow, it was like flipping through a book of tea treasures. They had so many choices from bold black teas, soothing green tea, light and floral blends, and even some with fruity or spicy flavors. I picked Lemongrass and Ginger tea that was strong, but still cozy—just right for the moment.

Delicate Bites
And then came the food. Oh my goodness.
First course: tea sandwiches, just like you’d imagine, but better. We had cucumber, smoked salmon, egg salad, and chicken salad—all made with care and cut into cute little rectangles. It’s the kind of food that makes you sit up a little straighter as you eat, because it feels so proper and refined.
They do offer refills of the delicious food, but it’s so easy to get full fast—you might not even have room for seconds!
Sweet Surprises
I only wish I had room to take some home in my purse! At one point, we heard a little “Happy Birthday” being sung to someone nearby, and the celebration cake they brought out looked absolutely delightful. Everyone in the room smiled—it just added to the joyful feeling.

Earlier, I had also been surprised with a cute little birthday cake of my own—along with a few other guests who were celebrating too. It was such a sweet touch, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting it at all.
Then later, as the piano played softly in the background, a woman stood up and sang Happy Birthday for all of us. It was so touching, I had to hold back a few tears. The whole moment felt thoughtful and kind, like something out of a movie.
Making Memories
After finishing our wonderful tea, we spent some time soaking in the moment and taking pictures.
The setting was just too beautiful not to capture. We met a few other guests who were also snapping photos with their families, and we all took turns helping each other out. It was such a nice way to connect—everyone was smiling, relaxed, and enjoying themselves.
I also met a lovely woman who lives in London. She was there celebrating with her mom, and we ended up chatting. It’s those little unexpected moments that really make the day extra special.

A Lavish Little Secret
Before we left, we made a quick stop at the elegant bathroom at the lower level—and yes, I took pictures there too (you’ll see why!). It was stunning—big, bright, and beautifully designed. There were mirrors everywhere, cozy couches to sit on, and the whole space felt like it belonged in a luxury spa. Definitely one of the prettiest restrooms I’ve ever seen in a hotel.

Hall of Elegance
Afterward, we took a stroll through the Long Gallery, which is lined with beautiful photos and elegant displays. It’s like a quiet little museum tucked right inside the hotel. The artwork, old photographs, and attention to detail all add to the charm and history of the Ritz. Every corner felt thoughtfully put together—just one more example of the luxury experiences the Ritz is known for.
Dressed for Tea
A quick note on the dress code: it’s smart casual, which means nice slacks, a blouse, or a simple dress is perfect. No jeans, no sneakers, and definitely no flip-flops. This is an elegant experience, and honestly, it’s fun to dress the part.
Putting on something a little nicer just adds to the feeling that you’re doing something special. It’s not about being fancy—it’s about showing respect for the tradition and atmosphere of a place like the Ritz. Plus, it makes those photos even more memorable!
A Timeless Treat
If you’ve ever dreamed of having tea in London, this is your sign. Tea at the Ritz Carlton in My 60s wasn’t just an afternoon snack—it was an unforgettable experience. A little slice of calm and class tucked into a busy world. It reminded me that it’s never too late to treat yourself, to step into a place where time slows down, and to feel special—just because.
And let’s be honest, after decades of working, raising families, and giving to others… don’t we deserve a little elegance and a whole lot of tea?
Have you ever had afternoon tea while traveling? What’s your dream city to try it in? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear about your favorite tea moments!
